Is Your Health Good?
In my opinion health is more than just being fit and healthy, it is also the result of your attitudes towards life that you adopt whether you realise it or not. The definition given by the World Health Organisation, states that “health is a condition of the body, mind and spirit that yields to the control of the individual”. A variety of other definitions have also been used over time for various purposes.
For the purposes of this article I would like to narrow it down to what I believe to be the three components of healthy living, which are physical health, mental health and intellectual wellness. Each of these components can be further broken down into two more components. Physical health is comprised of the things we do to keep ourselves healthy, such as eating the right foods and making sure we get the daily recommended amount of exercise. Mental health consists of our attitudes and thoughts, our general outlook on life and the means we use to make the most of our potential. Intellectual wellness includes the areas of our personal growth and development, our knowledge and how we use that knowledge to deal with the challenges of life.
The benefits of good health are many, and range from reduced risks of certain diseases to longer life spans and improved health outcomes for the whole family. It is important however, to recognise and be able to manage any of the risk factors associated with it. It is through this that you will be able to maintain wellness, and achieve and develop the maximum levels of it.
